Terms of use

Last updated 19 October 2026

Draft. This page is a plain-language draft that has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. It describes what the site actually does today, and it will change after legal review.

The short version

Thrifty Cape Town is a free map of second-hand shops, run by Hack Cove. Use it, but check with a shop before a long trip. Be honest in reviews and claims. We may remove anything that breaks these terms.

The listings

Most listings were compiled from public sources and have not been confirmed by the shop. Each one says whether it has been verified. Opening hours, addresses and stock change. We work to keep them right but cannot promise they are, so phone ahead. You can send a correction.

Your account

You sign in with Google and are responsible for what is done with your account. Our privacy notice explains what we keep and how to delete your account.

Reviews

  • Review a shop you have actually been to, once.
  • No abuse, no personal information about other people, nothing unlawful, and no reviews of your own shop or a competitor’s.
  • Your review stays yours. You allow us to show it on the site, and to keep showing it anonymously if you delete your account.
  • We may hide or remove a review that breaks these rules.

Claiming and managing a shop

Only claim a shop you are entitled to manage. We check a claim by sending a code to the shop’s published contact details. What you publish about the shop — hours, details, events, items — must be true, and you are responsible for it. We may undo changes, refuse or revoke a claim, or remove a listing.

Advertising

Spaces marked as adverts are adverts. A sponsored listing is labelled as sponsored.

Liability

The site is provided as it is. We are not party to anything you buy from a shop, and we are not responsible for a wasted trip caused by out-of-date details. Nothing here limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or any other law that cannot be excluded.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms and will change the date at the top when we do. These terms are governed by South African law. Questions go to jacobus@hack-cove.com.
